Op3 No.2

A bit of festive Classitronica! An exhilarating slice of Baroque – Handel’s Concerto Grosso Opus 3 No.1. Here featuring Eurorack modular, SyntrxII and Korg ARP2660M – lots of fun!
Ailein Duinn

Sort of Folksynth! Similar in style to my synth version of The Cutty Wren, this time with a Gaelic flavour! Featuring various synths – mainly my Eurorack modular and SyntrxII recorded into Pro Tools. Hopefully plan to add a vocal – if I can find a Gaelic-speaking singer!
Variations on a Theme . . .

Developed from the track in my last post, I slowed the tempo right down and extended the progression and worked on some additional sounds. The Erica Synths Black Sequencer makes so much difference as I can now work on four tracks simulataneously rather than having to build up the track from separate passes from mono […]
Ooooh! Black Sequencer

Just experimenting with a new sequencer – this is probably the most sophisticated one I have ever used – and I have quite a few. It is the Erica Synths Black Sequencer. What an amazing piece of kit! Running four outputs from my modular it really lends itself to performance, so this was just a […]
It’s About Time . . .

Several sequences all of different lengths from the Arturia Keystep sequencer. Particularly pleased with the opening sound which is from the AJH V Shape – I really like this module! Other parts from Syntrx II (of course!), ARP 2600M and the now almost vintage Doepfer Dark Energy. Oh and Nightverb might be in there somewhere […]
Even More SyntrxII + Nightverb

Keeping it ‘in the family’ this track was created with just Erica Synths SyntrxII and Nightverb – two passes. It is just so ‘hands on’ and has become my favourite synth (apart from my modular of course!).
More Adventures with SyntrxII + Nightverb

Having lots of fun with Erica Synths Nightverb which here I am using with my SyntrxII. Five tracks recorded into ProTools and just a little delay from the synth – no other fx. Been searching for the ultimate reverb for a while, in both hardware and software and I think that Nightverb might just be […]
New Toy: Nightverb!

Just arrived today – Nightverb from Erica Synths. Seems to be a very well designed piece of kit where the menu diving is pretty straightforward. One really good feature is the ‘pot catch’ popup where when adjusting a parameter that was saved with the preset, the value is displayed (as a dial) so you can […]
The Fairlight and me . . . a little history from 1981

I first heard about the Fairlight CMI at MIDEM – this magic machine that could sample sounds – but very little additional information was available. . . . . . I then spotted an ad in Studio Sound with a picture of the Fairlight and the strap line: ‘Fairlight C.M.I – Need We Say More?‘ […]
My First Modular

I had been using soft synths for several years producing instrumental music but had the itch to be more ‘hands on’ rather than tweaking presets. So, what finally triggered my plunge into modular was in March 2011 discovering an extensive article in Sound On Sound (originally published in 2009)- ‘The SOS Guide To Choosing A […]
